A noon report from Wilming ton shows a light primary turnout with 385 ballots cast across 13 polling places. Of these 310 were Republican and 75 voted the charter question only, with detailed per-poll tallies listed.
Tulsa based bandleader Ted Weems died Monday night from a lung ailment. Stars who started with Weems call him a great, loving figure and true gentleman. Survived by wife Eleanor, son Ted Jr., mother Victoria, and brother Robert. funeral services planned in Bethesda, Maryland.
The Air Force confirmed three men died in a B47 crash in a remote area near the Idaho border after colliding with a tanker. One crewman parachuted to safety. The recovered bodies include Capt. Lorin Matthews 30 Bremerton Washington Capt. Frank Zumba 32 Elmhurst New York and Staff Sgt. Lawrence E. Harrison 35 Wheelersburg Ohio.
Columbus AP reports sunny warm conditions mark Ohio election day with four tax levies and 323 bond issues on the ballot across three counties amid three special elections.
Police report a surge of arrests as demonstrations push Birmingham jails to capacity. King predicts more marches while Dick Gregory joins protesters and is detained, with 2,400 arrested since Thursday and 2,000 remaining jailed.

Stark County Grand Jury returns two first degree murder indictments against Robert K. Domer 43 in the death of Howard Franklin Riddle 54. One charges premeditated murder and the other kidnapping resulting in death. Riddle’s charred body was found in Domer’s burning car near the Wayne Stark line. Arraignment set for 9 a.m. next Monday.
Authorities report an escape from a Southern Michigan prison on April 22 with inmates missing. Officials coordinate search, while corrections officers reinforce security and investigate escape methods and possible accomplices.

Rabbi Rudolph M. Rosenthal of Temple on the Heights in Cleveland asks President Kennedy to adopt a New Frontier in the Middle East. In a 400 word letter at the temple’s annual meeting, he urges ending Nasser’s strategy of playing the UAR powers against the United States and Russia.
Columbus AP reports a swap over week in which the House must act on remaining bills and the Senate focuses on House measures. The Senate aims to vote the $1.3 billion two year budget by June 4 through June 6, with final sessions to follow shortly after passage.
The State Department plans an airlift to remove dependents of U.S. diplomatic and military staff from Haiti and urges other Americans to leave. About 1,300 Americans in Haiti are encouraged to use the airlift. The move comes as the Kennedy administration notes a deteriorating situation near Port au Prince and Guantanamo Bay.
Vice Admiral Hyman G. Rickover tested the Navy's newest submarine the Andrew Jackson over two days of sea trials and declared it seaworthy. After his assessment the submarine sailed for further tests expected to last about two days.
