Columbus June 30 The Works Progress Administration will limit Ohio employment to 148000 persons during the next 12 months beginning July 1, as announced by Dr Carl Watson WPA director. Mapping plans call for continuing the works program for another year.
Geneva reports Haile Selassie facing a hostile spectator demonstration in the League of Nations assembly while stating he champions the rights of small nations against powerful aggressors. WPA pushes relief program with one fourth of a new $1.425 billion appropriation, allotments including Ohio at $26,346,250.

Columbus June 80 More than 7 000 men from Ohio Indiana Kentucky and West Virginia will be enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps during July to fill vacancies caused by discharge of CCC men to permit them to accept outside employment. U S Army headquarters for the Fifth Corps Area announced selection had started. Nearly 500 of the total selected will be veterans. The remainder will be young men between 17 and 28 and experienced men located near camps.

Salt Lake City report on a church drive to remove 80,000 members from relief by October 1. After six weeks 212 projects are active and 238 more planned while 1,487 acres are under garden crops. Members will skip two meals on the first Sunday monthly to fund relief, aiming for about $1 per member annually.
Kent June 30 William Crayford president of the International Association of Machinists announced settlement of a strike at the Black and Decker Electric Company. About 450 workers had been out since May 3 and six men were shot. Under the agreement employees will return Thursday with a 5 percent wage rise a 40 hour week instead of 36 and the right to collective bargaining at the plant.
Two workers overcome by marsh gas in a 30-foot shaft were rescued by fireman Ralph W. Cassell who donned an oxygen mask and saved them. The victims were Charles Keyes, 18, of Valparaiso Indiana, and Lester Hartley, 24, of Conesville, employed by a well drilling firm at a dairy plant.
Ohio Republicans work on a state platform to oppose any tax increases and back local control of relief administration. Detective H G Weitzel said charges will be filed against Albert R Zautner 70 year old night watchman at Lincoln Fireproof Storage after the shooting of George A Rutherford 65 president and Lloyd H Pease warehouse superintendent. Rutherford died in his office and Pease was shot in the left groin but not seriously wounded. Company vice president W R Thomas said the incident followed a rebuke for intoxication and Zautner is held at the city jail.
The U S Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the National Labor Relations Board lacked authority to issue orders affecting companies whose business does not directly affect interstate commerce. It dismissed the board's enforcement petition and directed the order against Eruehaus Trailer Co of Detroit be set aside.
Chicago detectives grilled suspect Sidney Schaps after a lipstick note and skull drawing were found in the hotel room of Mrs Flor ence Thompson Castile. Lipstick message read Black Legion game interpreted as Black Legion came. Chief Sullivan called the clues misleading as Schaps faced a lie detector test while James D Britt of Stevens Point Wisconsin was sought for questioning.
