During mediation recess a federal conciliator oversees discussions as Lewis and Dewey chat. Lee Pressman, CIO general counsel, sits in the background while a mediation board meets with the presidents of three parties.
The United States Steel Mediation Board held a second conference with John L. Lewis and invited four strike affected company executives to meet again. optimism rose as the seven state walkout remained in status quo under President Roosevelt and Ohio National Guard. Taft noted Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Republic not reopening their plants aided chances for agreement.
Severe rain and wind storms across Ohio killed at least six people and injured many others. In Athens county Stewart village saw three deaths as homes were leveled, Chauncey reported seventeen injuries and fifty homes damaged, and Ezra Weakley was killed by lightning near Sand Ridge. Findlay endured flooding, with businesses hit and roads submerged as rivers rose well above flood stage. Carney claimed the $1050 check was for a list of prospective Consolidated stock buyers.
A Cincinnati jury of twelve begins deliberations in the Joseph Caproni case. He is charged with first degree murder in the slaying of his former fiancée Beatrice Roth. Judge Thomas Morrow outlines six possible verdicts from death in the electric chair to acquittal.
London reports that Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden told Parliament Britain will not join any naval display off Spain. The move follows German pressure tied to a supposed torpedo attack on the Leipzig and a German demand for punishment of the Spanish republic. Meanwhile insurgent air forces press Madrid as Franco advances toward Santander with Basque defenses holding key zones near Bilbao.
A jury of three women and nine men was sworn in just before noon in the trial of four men charged with ballot tampering in the election of a Lawrence County commissioner last November. Two school teachers and two Negroes are among the jurors, chosen after two hours of peremptory challenges. Opening statements were to follow in the afternoon.

Wil liam H Parsons believes his wife Mrs Alice McDowell Parsons has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. Federal inspector Earl Connelley said Parsons plans to act until a Thursday noon deadline and favors the kidnapping theory amid speculation of death or amnesia.

Dwight reportedly cut 1932 taxes by 53448.48.
U S Attorney John J. Quinn says a federal jury heard that Ellis H Parker and his son Ellis Jr conspired to violate the Lindbergh act in the abduction of Paul H Wendel. Defense prepares to outline evidence claiming the Parkers seek acquittal from the conspiracy charge.
Paris June 22 Leon Blum urged the Socialist party to join Camille Chautemps in forming a second People's Front government. He said the Socialists must participate to preserve the People's Front majority, noting the Radical Socialists were the moderates in the previous coalition he headed.
About 32 men from Blanchester’s Company F of the 147th Infantry were among 4500 to 5000 Ohio National Guardsmen ordered out by Governor Davey to the Mahoning Valley and Youngstown steel district. Captain George Shaner led the Blanchester detachment with Second Lieutenant Dan Sears, assembling 30 men, two officers, and two Wilmington members reached by Sheriff Hodson. The unit left Blanchester around 4 AM after sirens and phone calls to summon all available personnel.
At the 56th annual synod in Wooster Ohio on June 22 the Presbyterians devoted the day to foreign missions. Rev. Vernon P. Martin of Georgetown near Portsmouth was elected moderator and Rev. E W Modwick of Cumberland vice moderator.
A. E. Cole, 52, of the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad, was killed about midnight Monday when his automobile collided with a freight truck on Route 62 six miles east of Manchester.
John Barrymore and Elaine Barrie announce reconciliation at a Los Angeles railroad station. Barrie will dismiss her interlocutory divorce decree. Barrie, a New Yorker, says she loves Barrymore and they are very happy after her recent return from a personal appearance tour.
