Two Youths Hurt After Getaway Car Crashes Near Clarksville
Two youths Absent without leave from Fort Jackson were injured seriously when their stolen car crashed on the CCC Highway near Clarksville. James B Hanning 17 New Straitsville and Thomas Gary McQuenney 18 Butler Pa sustained major injuries while passenger Joyce Bodema 15 Butler Pa suffered minor cuts and bruises. All were treated at Clinton Memorial Hospital then transferred to Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital. Bodema released to her parents. Patrolman Spengler stopped the vehicle and pursued, the car rolled after he ordered a return to Wilmington. In a separate crash on the CCC Highway Joel Tate 45 Dallas Texas and Paul Osler 45 Columbus Ohio collided with John Power 59 Cincinnati Ohio, causing extensive damage to Tate and Osler vehicles.

74 Killed As Venezuelan Airliner Plunges Into Sea
NEW YORK September reports say a Venezuelan Super Constellation broke into flame nearly two miles up and dived into the Atlantic near Asbury Park New Jersey. The crash killed 74 aboard including 20 Americans. Debris and two bodies found. no survivors. The pilot Lt Cmdr Frederick J Hancox described a ball of flame as fuel was jettisoned then ignited. The plane hit the water at 1 32 a m after a 60 degree dive. It departed Idlewild for Caracas at 1120 p m, engine trouble led to a turn back and gas dumping before the fiery plunge. There were 64 passengers and 10 crew. 18 passengers and 2 crew were American. The accident is the worst in regular airline service to date. Linea Aeropostal Venezolana, the Venezuelan national airline, had a record of safety awards in 1949 50 and 51.
