Teacher Hurt When Car Is Hit by Train
Mrs Kathaleen B Johnson 22 of Portsmouth was injured Tuesday morning when her car was struck by a westbound Baltimore and Ohio train at East Locust street crossing. Her car rolled 218 feet along the track before stopping. She suffered a fracture of the right hip, possible rib fractures, and severe bruises. She was treated at Hale Hospital and taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Johnson, a Wilmington College student, was en route to Wilmington High School to observe summer practice teaching when the collision occurred. She told police she did not see the train until the first engine struck the car above the right rear wheel. The special train was bound for Wilmington to collect more than 600 Clinton County residents for a 4H club tour to Cincinnati. it already carried over 400 Fayette County residents. The car rolled across the tracks onto the sidewalk on Main Street. Passersby and officers arrived shortly after the crash and found Johnson still seated under the steering wheel.

Springfield June 17 Sheriff J Arthur Shuman said no timing for sending Jerome A Nevius the former Clark County prosecutor to Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus. Nevius serving a one to ten year bribery sentence gave himself up after being called a fugitive from justice by the sheriff. Milton Farber Columbus attorney for Nevius considered a new legal step but no motion was filed in Common Pleas Court yesterday. Nevius remains in Clark County jail.
