Astronauts James A. McDivitt and Edward H. White II near the halfway mark of their 97 hour 50 minute Gemini 4 mission as medical monitors track their condition. They set a U S orbital endurance record and may extend the flight beyond 34 hours as they complete orbit 32 and head toward splashdown Monday.
Washington County Society for Crippled Children in Marietta and nine other Ohio groups receive Head Start funding for preschool training. Projects cover 180 to 1,720 children with grants ranging from about 4 276 to 224 199 dollars.

Bellefontaine area drillers strike oil on a Logan County farm three miles east of Jackson Center after 20 days of drilling on Mrs Lilly Hoover's property. Oil found at 1383 feet echoes a 1905 discovery later abandoned when gas was sought. Production rate not yet determined.
Carl R. Kimball, 88, a former speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, died Thursday at his Madison home. A Republican, he served as speaker in 1919 and 1920 and retired from his hardware business in 1962. Services are set for Sunday in Madison.
The AP reports that communist attempts to capitalize on regional turmoil failed in Ecuador as the military junta led by Adm. Ramon Castro Jijon clings to power. Economic strain and unrest threaten stability, with dissension within the regime and broad opposition from political parties and middle classes.
Harvard College class of 1940 prepares for its 25th reunion amid the death of member John F. Kennedy. More than 500 of 927 living classmates are expected for the June 13 to June 17 gathering, which will honor Kennedy in a frontispiece dedication and a memorial service at Memorial Church.
Dominick Berlingieri a 68 year old coin collector was found dead of natural causes in his Brooklyn apartment above a waterfront restaurant he once ran. Police counted his life savings totaling 13000 in quarters dimes and nickels from jars cans and cartons filling the cluttered room. The sum was tallied with a coin counting machine borrowed from the Transit Authority.
President Johnson called for a broader civil rights effort to turn equality from a right into a practical fact. At Howard University he announced a White House conference for fall to address barriers, stressing opportunity and human ability for 20 million Negro Americans and broad national support. Seven people, including five children, died in a two car crash five miles east of Rosalia Kansas during a heavy rainstorm. Lyle Edward Jackson of Lincoln Illinois and his wife Bonnie and three sons died in one car. In the other car Scott Dewell 10 and Krista Ann Dewell 1 were killed. Parents Halburt L. Dewell 33 and Joyce 33 were injured.
The California Senate pushes a plan to divide the state at Tehachapi into a northern and southern entity. The Assembly and Gov Brown oppose the move while Congress is asked to approve. Northern state would have 7.8 million in 51 counties. southern state 10.3 million in eight counties.
A lone gunman looted Farmers State Bank and shot four people as eight 22 caliber shells lay on the floor. Three bank employees died and a fourth, Franklin Kjeldgaard, was critically wounded. Sheriff Floyd Stahr led a wide manhunt across western Nebraska and eastern Colorado.
Daniel W. Christman of Hudson Ohio tops the United States Military Academy class to graduate Wednesday. The 22 year old son of Mr and Mrs Ivan E Christman received personal congratulations Friday from former President Dwight D Eisenhower who spoke at the ceremony.
