Venezuela hikes oil reference price to world high

Venezuela doubled its tax reference price for crude to 14.08 dollars per barrel, up from 7.74 this month and 3.11 a year ago. The move, effective January 1, could push higher fuel costs in the United States as industry officials warn consumers may bear much of the increase. Venezuela, supplying about 1.7 million barrels daily to the U S, remains a major but not sole source of American oil.
