Walter Friend Dies From Auto Crash Near Clarksville
Funeral services for Walter Eugene Friend 26 of Waynesville RFD 3 will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Clarksville Methodist Church. Burial at Miami Cemetery follows. He died from a fractured skull after an auto accident on Spring Hill road near Clarksville Saturday about 11 p.m. His wife Mary Ellen, daughter Sharon Lynn 14, and baby remain hospitalized in Columbus and at University Hospital. Police described a crash that left the car off the road, through a ditch, striking a tree, with the mother and baby injured and Walter crushed under the vehicle. He is survived by parents Howard and unnamed mother, wife, daughter, four brothers Harry James Charles Jerry, and four sisters Goldie Eva Mildred Olle. Funeral home and residence visitations are noted.

In a broadcast heard from Nanking the Chinese Communists said Suchow fell at 8 P M Wednesday amid attacks on government troops. Government general Teng Wen Yi denied abandonment of Suchow while Claire Chennault’s airmen reported Communist proximity and refugees fleeing west.
