Herman the prolific cat dies at 22 in Columbus

The famed cat Herman owned by Mrs. M. S. Tooil Sr. of Columbus died August 14. In an obituary the family listed survivors as daughter Louise 214, son Herman Jr. 9, son Buster 7, all at home or in the care of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Waring, and about 190 other children along with hundreds of grandchildren and thousands of great grandchildren.

Cost of Living Rises to Record High for July

The Labor Department reports July consumer price index at 107.1, up 0.5 percent from June and 1.5 percent higher than a year ago. Food and fuel led gains while housing medical care and tobacco pushed overall costs higher. Living allowances rise 1 to 3 cents an hour for about 1.25 million workers across automotive aerospace and farm equipment sectors.
