First 40 percent of the national army is called out as 300000 men are relocated to sixteen military camps. The development signals a major mobilization effort amid wartime requirements and indicates large scale training and deployment planning underway.

Greensboro N C Sept 19 Federal Judge James E Boyd issued a ruling citing Gaston B Means business manager for Mrs Maude A King of Chicago killed near Concord August 29 to appear in court next Tuesday and show cause why he should not be held in contempt The decision stems from contempt proceedings by Phil C McDuffie for Mrs Anna L Robinson mother of Mrs King who alleges Means still holds 60000 cash property of the King estate which he was ordered to surrender to Central Bank and Trust Company of Asheville The judge refused to summon Means Friday as the matter is civil and he needs time to summon witnesses to prove obedience of the surrender order Papers documents an automobile jewelry and a 3000 check have been turned over in compliance with the ruling and Means has said he possesses 60000 cash of Mrs King which he refused to surrender The judge cautioned that such statements may be unfounded Means will likely be served with tonight s ruling.
