Alleged Burglar Found Sleeping in Hamme Home
James Ross, a young man, was found asleep on a parlor sofa in R. F. Hamme’s home at 106 North Fourth Street and later jailed. Police say pockets contained items linked to two burglaries including diamond rings identified by Mrs. O F Wolfe. Ross had keys with C A Wilkerson’s name on a tag and a cuff link set tied to a Wilkerson burglary. Mrs. Wolfe’s home on North Fifth Street was burgled Saturday night, and Dr. Harles Bellamy reported his car used by the thief. Ross claimed no money on his person and could not explain his presence or why he chose Hamme’s home. Police noted Hamme discovered the sleeping man after missing clothes and a night-time burglary, and Hamme’s history of firing on a thief years ago.
