Board of Education Delays New Appointees Until July
After weeks of debate the Board of Education again asserts its central role as April passes without the new members C. B. Newcombe and Thos. E. Cooper taking office. They will begin July 1, with terms set for six and four years, leaving the current board intact until then. A quarter million in bonds for schools is expected to be reviewed soon, and the legality of any changes will be strictly checked. Legislation and public campaigns in Raleigh earlier shaped Newcombe and Cooper’s appointments despite persistent questioning.
