Giant 65 Foot Carload Delivers Stone for Bahai Temple Dome

A 65 foot long unenclosed freight car arrived on a Chicago Northwestern siding in Wilmette carrying 36 pieces of artificial Earley process concrete stone weighing 139 700 pounds destined for the Bahai temple dome. Skokie Valley Coal & Material Co. unloads and the framework to place 387 sections weighing 1½ to 2 tons each is bolted to steel girders. The material uses two quartz varieties 75 percent clear and 25 percent opalescent, mixed with white cement in plaster molds at Washington studios, promising permanent white color and moisture resistance.
