Wilmette residents prepare for the tenth annual Fourth of July celebration at the Village Green sponsored by Wilmette Post No. 46 American Legion. George F. The program includes a 1:30 pm patriotic kick-off, color guarding, a service led by D C Leach, and races at 1:45 pm under the Playground and Recreation board.

Wilmette boards seek tax hikes despite lower budgets
The village proposes 1933 34 budgets totaling 301,835.72 across the Village corporate, Library, Recreation board, Firemen and Police pension funds, down from 315,954.97 last year. Village corporate expenses total 272,769.72, 14,102.53 below 1932 33, while actual 1932 33 expenditures were 249,883.56. Despite lower budgets, tax levies rise as liquid assets were used previously. Public hearings Thursday and Friday will explain budgets and levies. Dobbs notes no unused liquid assets remain except for the Firemen pension fund.
