Jubilee carnival to close three day sales in Wilmette

The L Terminal Business association hosts a Jubilee in Wilmette on Friday June 30 in the L terminal district at Linden avenue and Fourth street. Highlights include a doll buggy parade for children up to 8, pet parade with a bicycle prize, judged by local volunteers, and a street dance with Joey Barger’s orchestra. Prizes include a large doll and dishes for first place, and roller skates for runners up.

New Trier Teachers Gift for Elmer D Beckers

New Trier Township High School teachers presented a signed brochure to Mr and Mrs Elmer D Becker of Wilmette in appreciation for help arranging the sale of coupon books by gas oil companies and a meat packing concern. The cash from coupon sales was turned over to the teachers as part of their salary proceeds.

New Trier Classes Present Amplifying System at Commencement

At the annual commencement held last Thursday 417 graduates were recorded. The 1933 and 1934 classes jointly presented an amplifying system for the Leslie F. Gates gymnasium. Speeches were by Robert Seiler president of the class of 1933 and Dor elle Moulton president of the class of 1934. J R Gathercoal of Wilmette accepted the gift for the board in Otto R Barnett's absence due to illness.

Roberts to Alaska for four months mining trip

Keith Roberts of Glencoe leaves on a four months business journey to Alaska. He will assess mining property north of Cape Nome, sailing from Seattle to Valdez and then flying 800 miles to Candle.

L Terminal Carnival Aims at Better Values Week

Balloon slogans invite visitors to district stores next Wednesday through Friday. Merchants will decorate shops to showcase the Better Values at the L Terminal theme. The L Terminal Business Association, led by President Harry Dornbos, sponsors the event and holds weekly luncheons.

Wilmette weighs action to halt beer sales in village

Merchants in Wilmette were warned by the police to stop selling beer after their current stock runs out as the village considers a rule barring sale. Village President C P Dobbs urged caution while the board has yet to vote or issue a municipal license. The Chamber of Commerce reported merchants favor beer sales to keep customers from neighboring areas.

Plan Two Hearings on Proposed Budget in 1933 34

Two public hearings on the village budget and tax levy for 1933 34 will be held next week. Stolp school Thursday June 29 at 8 p m and Howard school Friday June 30 at 8 p m. Village President C P Dobbs will speak and invite Library Recreation and pension fund representatives. Copies of the budget and levy will be mailed to every village family.

Wilmette Welfare Board Plans Tag Day for Summer Funds

The Wilmette Welfare board seeks urgent donations as its funds run dry to aid needy families. A tag day is set for Monday June 26 with 300 to 400 volunteers covering every village section. A new plan requires able-bodied applicants to perform work in exchange for merchandise coupons redeemable for essentials.

Two Sears Teachers Offer Summer Tutoring in Kenilworth

Joseph Sears school faculty members in Kenilworth provide summer tutoring. Miss Tolita Hanson, science and domestic science teacher, starts this week offering instruction in various subjects to intermediate grade pupils. Miss Etta Knudsen, a first grade teacher, will begin the first week of July tutoring primary grade children.
