Summer Playground Opens With Record Attendance at Four Centers

Attendance at four playgrounds reached 655 registered children on Monday with 150 more unregistered, as the Playground and Recreation board kicked off the summer season. The program includes village-wide O Leary contests, a four-site playground ball league, and a Beach Day next Friday featuring swimming instruction by Dudley C. Stone and Alta B. Caldwell.

Village Revises License Fees And Sets December 3 Expiry

The village adopted ordinances to unify license fee expirations to December 3 and revise charges. Dairy vehicles pay 5 per vehicle yearly. billiard tables 15 each. bowling alleys 25 per alley. cigaret sales 25. peddler rates 50 yearly 25 six months 15 three months 10 one month. Brokers pay 10. catch basin and sewer cleaners 25. President Orner notes peddler licensing targets undesirables and home entry surveys for burglary plans.

Rotary Leader Enjoys Wisconsin Fishing Trip

D. E. Allen Jr of Ed dington and Allen Wilmette realtors is fishing in the northwoods near Boulder Junction Wisconsin. He went there from Minneapolis where he attended the Rotary International convention this week as delegate of the Wilmette Rotary club and is president elect of the local luncheon club.

Wilmette Parish Methodist church bids planned for July

The church plans to solicit construction bids for a new edifice around July 1. The building committee is drafting plans to present to prospective bidders.

Harvey Hopp Named Commander Of Wilmette Legion Post 46

Harvey Hopp was elected commander of Wilmette American Legion Post 46 at the June meeting. W. E. Richmond was named vice commander, Harry Flentye finance officer, Russell Johnson sergeant at arms, with Bert O Connell and Harold Mohr on the executive committee. New officers will assume late fall. Memorial Day parade films by Mr and Mrs Orville Daily and Edward Kunz were shown. The post and auxiliary will host sailors at Great Lakes hospital next Monday night with transport needed. call Commander S Van Inwagen or Mrs Beatrice Hawkins to help.

Appoint Local Pastor to Methodist World Service Commission

Dr Horace G Smith of Wilmette Parish Methodist church and Rock River Conference delegate to the Quadrennial Conference is named a member of the World Service Commission. The commission will meet at the Chicago Temple next Tuesday to oversee the denomination benevolence program.

Wilmette seeks Sunday opening ballot on theaters

A petition circulated in Wilmette urges the village board to call a special referendum to allow Sunday operation of motion picture theaters. The proposal asks if theaters may operate on Sundays in Wilmette, Cook County Illinois, with signatures expected to exceed required totals. A September vote is likely if board acts soon, with petitions circulated in stores and public places citywide.

Lake Avenue Paving Bids Rejected By Village Board

The Lake avenue resurfacing project from Michigan Avenue to Ridge Road faced bid rejection as all bids exceeded the engineer's estimate. Readvertisement for bids will be required. Separately, the 17th street paving contract was awarded to Winnetka contractor Paul Reschke for $31,552 at the Tuesday board meeting.
