The Cook County Board of Review announced a full revaluation and reassessment of every real estate parcel as of April 1 1929. Officials say downward shifts in land and building values since 1928 will lift 1929 tax bills by about 20 percent unless budgets are cut and assessments reduced.
The Wilmette English Evangelical Lutheran church on Greenleaf and Seventh invites the public to a 4 PM Sunday program December 28. W C Thiel composed Fear Not for womens voices. the Sunday school will present The Baby Jesus Followers with named cast and student directors.
One new tuberculosis case was reported in Wilmette for the week ending Tuesday December 23. The report lists four new and one old mumps, two new and five old scarlet fever, two new and three old whooping cough, and one new diphtheria case. The diphtheria case involved a student who contracted the illness elsewhere and returned home for holidays.
Lane Carter, back from Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, received his football letter at a rally on December 1b. He spent the holidays with his mother, Mrs. H. H. Carter, at 460 Winnetka Avenue, Winnetka.
The Wilmette Board of Local Charities will provide Christmas baskets to every needy family identified by a village survey. It plans to support unemployed residents through winter and asks for tips on families needing food clothing or shelter to contact C. C. Shultz at the Village hall.
Members urge Gov. Louis L. Emmerson to convene a conference with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Real Estate Board of Illinois Illinois Manufacturers Association and Illinois Agricultural Association to devise a plan for more equitable tax distribution after defeat of the tax amendment. The 1930 letter is dated December 15 and bears multiple signatures.
Bishop Edwin Holt Hughes of the Chicago Area Methodist Church will conduct a Watch Night service at Wilmette Parish Methodist on New Year's Eve December 31 at 11 30 P M An elaborate program opens with a fellowship service at 8 30 followed by a festival of song at 9 15 a social hour at 10 and a sanctuary service beginning at 11.
