Registrations at Wilmette beach reached about 100 000 through August 26, with peak daily attendance of 6 257 on July 27. Eight days topped 3 000 visitors, driven by new facilities in the bathhouse and higher season-ticket sales totaling 1 985 sold. Beach opens June 21 and closes with Wilmette Public Schools starting September 8.
The Wilmette Chamber of Commerce announces an open meeting on Monday night September 8 at 8 pm in the Wilmette Masonic temple 1010 Central avenue. Village Manager C M Osborn will speak on the village manager system and current village problems inviting residents clubs and organizations to attend. The event marks the chamber’s first meeting in three months with the aim of acquainting Wilmette residents with the new form of government.
The village sets a September 18 written test at Wilmette Village Hall for two new paid fireman posts. Applications and blanks are available from Fire Chief Walter Zibble, with a required physical test and final appointment by Fire Chief Zibble pending Village Manager Osborn. The hires start October 1, bringing the department to seven paid and twelve volunteer firefighters.
David Johnson leads the New Trier High School book store as it opens from 9 to 12 on September 4 5 and 6 to let students buy books ahead of classes starting September 8. Students know their required texts from the previous year.
Rev William E McCormack director of the Pilgrim Foundation for Congregational students at the University of Illinois will preach at the union services in the Wilmette Baptist church Sunday morning August 31 at 11 oclock Dr Vere V Loper retiring pastor of the Congregational church will occupy the pulpit at the union service Sunday September 7 The union services have been conducted through the summer months under joint auspices of the First Congregational and Baptist churches They will terminate with the services on September 7.
Mrs. John L. Wilds of 244 Oxford Road Kenilworth returns with her daughters after spending the summer in North Carolina with her parents.

Public schools in New Trier villages will open next week with Glencoe delaying by a day. About 6 700 pupils will attend, with New Trier High School expecting around 1 900 students, the largest in its history. Winnetka leads enrollments, Wilmette second, Glencoe and Kenilworth smaller.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Grambling of 1143 Ash Street will relocate to Great Neck Long Island as Mr Grambling transfers to the New York office. Mrs Grambling will move September 3 to Dodford Road Russell Garden. They have been staying with Mrs Grambling's parents at 1310 Ashland Avenue. Phyllis Grambling celebrated her eighth birthday with a luncheon on August 20.
Mr and Mrs Albert J Crane and their son Louis 204 Seventeenth street returned last Saturday from a two weeks motor trip to Michigamme Michigan.
