Harmony convention chairman F. O. Ebeling pledges to press the platform’s ideals and support civic affairs in Wilmette. He cites misrepresentations in the election over the water works issue and notes signatures denying links to the injunction suit.
The Wilmette Coast Guard station near Chicago will gain a high power radio broadcasting unit soon. Commander T S Klinger says equipment is en route and construction starts in about a week. The system will speed rescue work and mirrors a Cleveland unit. Captain M A Jacobson now leads Wilmette station after transferring from Plum Island.
Daylight Saving time begins Sunday as clocks jump one hour forward at 2 00 a m Sunday. Churches in the community will observe the time change and the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee railroad will run on the new time with trains scheduled similarly to now.
Wilmette Civic league reiterates support for the manager plan and proposes two code revisions. The manager would head all departments under his jurisdiction and oversee work, and he would offer recommendations on appointments for department heads. John P. Ballman reported the April league meeting at Howard school auditorium.
The Wilmette Village Board approved a milk ordinance at an adjourned meeting last Thursday night requiring only pasteurized or certified milk for sale. Bulk purchases must use sealed five-gallon cans or larger, and restaurants must serve milk in individual bottles. The full legal text appears in Wilmette Life this week.
Yachting enthusiasts press Chicago Sanitary District to dredge Wilmette harbor used by Sheridan Shore Yacht Club and Coast Guard. Tests by Frank Heyes and Clark Morton show harbor depths of about 2.5 feet, with a 3.5 to 5 foot channel to the lake. With lake levels dropping and many visiting crafts for the Century of Progress, coast guard limits could pose safety risks. Government aid is sought though harbor is not government property.
