A dramatic rescue at Torbay ends in tragedy as Walter Trapnell, a government diver, is freed after five and a half hours beneath 150 feet. Leverett, the fellow diver, recounts a perilous three hour effort to unwind the air pipe and life line, nearly exhausting himself before Trapnell's release. Trapnell dies in hospital the following night. Leverett receives praise for his heroism.
