Five men injured in Minneapolis charcoal plant blast
A Terrific explosion followed by fire at Twin City Charcoal on Tenth Avenue South and Second Street injured five men and destroyed about 3500 dollars worth of property. Carpenter and Squires were on the ground floor when the blast occurred. Firemen were hurled through the building wall as flames spread, with Captain Price and Pipeman Barrett among the injured. Ed Walton is missing and feared dead. loss borne by J. W. Bentley, principal stockholder, who had no insurance. The cause remains undetermined, suspected spontaneous combustion or a spark in dust.

Washington October 29 Attorneys for Attorney General Young won a step in the Minnesota habeas corpus case before the U S Supreme Court. Chief Justice Fuller granted a rule to show cause why the writ should be issued and directed a report by December 2. After a brief court exchange, an order to admit Young to bail and recognize before the Minnesota circuit court was announced, with Young to be released on nominal bail once the marshal receives it.

An earthquake lasting about a minute struck Hot Springs South Dakota on Saturday near 2 p.m. Windows rattled furniture shifted and in Wind Cave thirteen miles north guides and visitors heard thunder like sound. It is the first quake since a more notable one fourteen years ago.
