A friend of the County Fair writes that Williams County held its most successful fair, with strong livestock, farm produce, and school exhibits. He notes good finances, local participation, and urges voters in the November election to approve County Aid to fund future fairs and improvements.
Ole Sunne appeared before Police Magistrate Smith on a drunk and disorderly charge. He posted a ten dollar cash bond to appear in court and sought refund if found not drunk. Bert Royce also faced a drunk and disorderly charge and was fined five dollars plus costs last Thursday.
A quiet October wedding took place Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs Lars Christensen. Miss Ellen Foss and Mr Gus Swensen were united in marriage by Rev Monson. The reception followed with a three course dinner. The couple will reside on Fifth Street West.
Lansford North Dakota October 19 Joe Mylo and John Miller confess to murdering J N Karst of Breckenridge Minnesota and H Seiss of Calgary Canada ten days ago in Lansford. Mylo says Miller dispatched Seiss. Mylo killed both victims for robbery. Police say Mylo’s account largely corroborated by other evidence and a witness report. Karst buried at Breckenridge. Seiss body held in Lansford.
C. C. Morrison, passenger and immigration agent for the Great Northern, visited the city Monday to gather pictures and data for an advertising booklet. He toured Rogers farm on the river and Palmer farm on the Muddy, praising the valley’s alfalfa. He dined with commercial club directors and predicted considerable immigration next year due to the region’s strong crops.
Gamble of Epping announced a Halloween dance at the Epping opera house for October 30. The venue features an elegant dancing floor, a good orchestra, and typically draws a large crowd for a lively evening.
Frank Wodnik of Minneapolis closed a deal through H. V. Smith for a five acre tract east of the Muddy bridge in the Heffernan quarter and has begun erecting a tannery. The price was seventy five dollars per acre.
London reports a British force led by Lieutenant Commander George Seymour sank four German destroyers off the Holland coast. The Undaunted led the action. the British suffered minimal casualties while about 400 German sailors perished. The victory shifts naval balance and crowns Seymour a hero.
Rev Dr Harriss of Cando North Dakota is appointed pastor of the Williston Methodist church. He will arrive next week to begin duties. The Planette M E Church praised his three year work, noting about 100 new members and strong Bible school growth including a 62 member Men’s Social Study class and 28 in the Women’s Bible class. A service before his arrival featured District Superintendent Jas J Asher. The article notes November 1st as his first sermon date.
Williston citizens gathered Tuesday evening at the M. E. mans to toast the departing pastor and his companion. Ladies hosted in two rooms while men mingled in the parlor. Mrs. Slater gave a gracious speak and presented a silver carving set and spoons. Dr Ludden offered remarks and jokes, then the crowd sang Blest Be The Tie That Binds.

Mrs M S Phillips entertained a group at their country home last Saturday to honor Mrs E Lewis Wall. Guests enjoyed a sociable afternoon and a delicious chicken dinner described as a surefire favorite of Mrs Phillips. The Turns case faced a new hearing Monday in district court at Schafer before Judge Fisk. The judge quashed the information since it was based on a hearing about a man found in the river, not the body found in the coulee claimed to be Saxse. The state has 24 hours to file a new information. A preliminary hearing held on the 30th noted two civiles tried while others were continued or settled.
The Commonwealth Male Quartette drew a large audience at the Congregational church last night. Their varied program pleased all, with Mr. Paine delivering a notable impersonation of piano pieces. The event marked the first in the Williston Lecture Course held in the new church.
Robert L. Fauteck, a switchman in the Great Northern yards, had his left leg crushed when a box car moved and ran over him while he attempted to jump off to adjust a switch. He was rushed to hospital where Dr. Van Dyke amputated the leg below the knee. Fauteck, about 82 and single, is reportedly recovering.
