Republican Meetings Draw Large Crowds in City Events

Large crowds filled Gates opera house on Friday with Senator Hansbrough delivering a national issues focused address. Tuesday night at the court house Attorney Sutton of Minot and Attorney H R Turner of Fargo spoke strongly. The speakers praised the party and predicted a big Republican majority.

Matinee at Williams County Fair track Sunday

Williams County Fair and Racing Association presents a Sunday matinee on the track with four races and a harrow purchase funded by an admission fee. Governor Sarles will attempt to beat the 2:14 track record, and a free for all pace features Grace Evans and others.

Ben Olson the Republican nominee for sheriff of Williams county, born March 8 1876 in Lodi Wisconsin. He left Wisconsin in 1893, moved to Churches Ferry, worked while attending State University, then served as chief deputy under Sheriff E L Beaverstad in Benson county before moving to Williston and working at Hedderichs and Boyd’s. He was nominated at the June 24 Republican primary.

McCumber Praises Hanna In North Dakota Campaign Tour

Fargo reports Senator P. J. McCumber praised Hanna during Cass county visits, urging support for federal grain inspection and other legislation. He stressed Hanna’s understanding of farmers and the state, claiming Hanna would fight for North Dakota in the lower house.

Federation of Women’s Clubs Meets in Minot

The Federation of Women’s Clubs held its meeting in Minot on Oct 7 8 and 19 with about 150 women from across the state. Sessions in the Presbyterian church featured papers by Mrs Clark Kelley Mrs M H Jewell Mrs John Burke and Dr Quain plus musical numbers and a Carrie Jacobs Bond program. Mrs N C Young of Fargo was elected president and next year’s meeting will be in Valley City.

The North Dakota Farmers Institute will begin a winter circuit around December 1. Professor Thomas Shaw returns as lecturer, with top speakers from agricultural and related fields to be added as opportunities arise.
