Bricklayers are sought for Williston North Dakota with free fare and 70 cents per hour. Apply at 402 Manhattan Bridge corner 6th and Robert St where GN employment officers are located. Company plans a new engine house near the river and a depot may follow later.
The funeral for Billie Gilmore aged 3 years 3 months 4 days was held Saturday afternoon at the M E church. Rev Hollett preached as music by the choir and Miss Boyd at the organ accompanied prayers and funeral rites. Billie was the couple's oldest child and his death deeply grieved the family. relatives from Portal and local friends attended the service and cemetery interment.
A grain wagon en route from Wegley elevator overturned on Broadway north of the Graphic office Monday afternoon. The wagon carried flax which spilled across the street after the wagon reach broke. The box rose eight to nine feet to unload into the cars, without shoveling.
A Stevens boat from the United Kingdom reached port Monday carrying a large load of wheat and flax, about 2800 bushels in total. The crew worked through Monday night and continued busy until around noon Tuesday.
George Stevens remains down the river and buys the grain ready for the boat on its return. On the down trip the boat carries substantial freight as surveyors begin work on a spur to run down to the boat landing. The spur will allow Stevens to load grain directly into cars, eliminating dual handling.
H. C. Delaney began a crew on government irrigation work, near the depot a settling basin will be built to remove sand from river water before pumping to canals. A large crew will move dirt through fall 07, with good wages at three dollars a day for willing workers in the city.
W A Morris of Madison Wisconsin, father of Mrs Joseph W Jackson, left Tuesday for home after a two week visit. He praised North Dakota soil and weather, saying crops here rival the east and he may invest heavily in real estate in the region.
The river front below the city buzzes with activity as irrigation settling basins are built, surveying for new sidings proceeds, and the city power house is expanded. Steam boats unload hundreds of grain sacks to storage docks, while teams haul dirt, brick, and freight along the busy half mile stretch.
Three large Northern Pacific survey crews work on the south bank surveying for an N P extension. The head crew with twenty men is near Stroud, under twenty miles from Williston, followed by two other crews for locating and staking. No crossing decision announced. a previous year crossing survey indicated the best crossing between here and St Louis.
At noon near Valley City Charles Ford an engineer on a threshing rig was fatally burned when his oil soaked clothing caught fire while trying to avert a blaze under the engine. He fled across a stubble field collapsing exhausted as flames enveloped him. Ford a Barnes county farmer leaves a wife in delicate health and two small children.
Engineers advance on the large irrigation project power house near Muddy with a 100 by 100 foot plan. Chief Engineer Storrs recently traveled east and secured a rapid cement delivery to support installation by year end.
Lizy Erickson, 25, living three miles north of Stan ley, shot herself in the head with a shotgun Tuesday. Grief over her mother's death and the recent death of her fiancé intensified her distress. attempts to remove memories and a wish to visit the old home were refused. No prior warning signs were noted.
