A crowds thronged the site last Sunday for the laying of the corner stone of Williston's new Congregational church. The ceremony featured music from the Williston band, prayers, scripture readings, and speeches by city officials and church leaders, with Rev J M Sutherland giving the principal address. A time capsule was placed in the stone containing church history, photos, and program notes.

He Smokes As Leg Is Severed In Freight Train Accident
Carl Bryan's legs were crushed beneath a freight train in Fargo on October 1. City physician Kaess amputated the limb just below the hip beside the track. Bryan smoked a cigarette during the operation and spoke with bystanders. He was later taken to a hospital. the leg was dressed. Dr Kaess believed his strong nerves aid recovery. Bryan had been in harvest fields this summer and was bound for Minneapolis when his coat caught a switch arm and he was thrown under the moving car. He said he has no life.

Catholic church construction proceeds on First Avenue West
Work has begun in the basement of the new Catholic church on First Avenue West. The brick structure will stand south of the Library near the Canadian church. Foundations to be laid this fall with rapid completion planned for early spring. The edifice will enhance the area and provide a modern facility for church services.

Unclear gun fatality at Temvik near Braddock
Ermie Rumler died from a gunshot in Temvik after an evening of drinking. He and two others had been partying. he descended from a room above the pool hall when his revolver fired. It is not known if the shot was self inflicted or accidental.

Cattle Auction Profit Shown by Five Calves
Val Delaney bought five five month old calves at auction. In Williston they were butchered and sold for 49.80 dollars each as dressed meat totaling 249.00. Hides weighed 57 pounds each yielding 39.90 dollars. Overall receipts for the five calves reached 288.00 dollars. The Fairview gun club has formed with a large membership.

Death of William C. Lynch Prominent Williston Cafe Owner
William C. Lynch born February 22 1861 in Newport R I died suddenly after leading the Great Northern Cafe in Williston North Dakota since 1907. A civil engineer by training he worked on a government reclamation project before buying the cafe. He was active in Knights of Columbus and Williston Lodge. Funeral at St Joseph Church was followed by burial in Ogdensberg. Mrs Lynch accompanied by her father to Chicago then to Williston to resume running the cafe.
