Norse Suffrage Drive Spurs Atlantic Ironies in Devils Lake
At the Sons of Norway district convention in Devils Lake, Thorson of Rugby extolled Norway as the most democratic nation with universal suffrage for men and women. He forecast North Dakota Norwegians would vote for women's suffrage this fall. Mrs. Weible and Mrs. Pierce campaigned two weeks, visiting towns to organize suffrage groups. Peter Myrvold and Mary D. Weible spoke in Sutton, and a new league formed at Sheyenne with officers named. Mrs. Baldwin sent ten dollars to suffrage HQ, praising progress under difficult conditions. Additional talks arrived from Mrs. Van Fleet, Gaius Wooledge spoke at Garrison’s show, and Rugby High School girls formed a Civic Club pushing franchise rights.
