Potatoes Seek Altitude Record In Williston Trade

Better Potato Rate to Coast Points New Tariff

Old log house removed from 1st Avenue site
The old log house built and occupied by Charles Shafer and family since 1890 at 1st Avenue east and Fourth street was torn down this week. The Shafer family lived in Williston for schooling while McKenzie county was new range country. George Shafer, now county attorney, attended his first school days in the home. Four Story Hotel Begins Next March
A four story hotel of sixty five rooms costing about sixty thousand dollars is planned for Williston in 1917. It will be fire roof construction and occupy the Gorge W Newton property at Main and Front streets. Contractor E B Link leads construction with Newton as site owner. The project promises a major improvement to the city skyline for travelers on the Great Northern through trains.

Four Die in Bainville Celebration Melee and Fire
Four deaths and one serious injury mark a chaotic Saturday night from Snowden to Culbertson. A Bainville melee after a dance left Chris Frohlich, 28, unconscious after a chin blow and he died at Wittenberg hospital. Rumors claim two men burned in Culbertson jail as the city fire started from a stove explosion. A separate early Tuesday freight collision on the Great Northern struck a gasoline speeder, killing one railroad employee and gravely injuring another as a handcar was chased by noise and darkness.
