New Law Opens Public Lands to Agricultural Settlement

A new act effective July 17 1914 allows nonmineral entry on public lands previously withheld for mined deposits. The government retains title to minerals beneath lands opened for homesteads desert land timber and stone state selections or other filings across phosphate nitrate potash oil gas or asphaltic deposits.

Ambassadors exit Constantinople signal hostilities

London reports a withdrawal of the ambassadors of the triple entente from Constantinople seen as a signal of approaching hostilities. Gymnasium Equipment Arrives at Congregational Church

The first order of apparatus for the gymnasium in the church basement has arrived and will be installed this week. Baths are in use by many and the gymnasium and baths are open free to the public inviting all indoors sports enthusiasts to use the facilities.

Prairie Fire Ravages East of Williston Causing Heavy Loss

A prairie fire driven by strong winds swept 20 miles east of Williston on Monday. Farms lost barns and hay, with one man named Aiey badly burned after his shack and barn burned. Firefighters from Williston aided but could not halt the blaze. The grass had been heavy and much feed was burned.

Narrow escape for Buhler cafe waitress Miss Yarno

Miss Julia Yarno, a waitress at Buhler Cafe, nearly died after using chloroform in her Union Block room. Friends forced entry when she collapsed, doctors revived her, and she is recovering. Her weak heart heightened danger.

Seed Contest Next January At North Dakota Growers

Williston Seen A New Large Hospital Plan

Business leaders and church groups in Williston plan a non sectarian hospital costing about sixty thousand dollars. A united cooperative approach and a big public meeting Monday night aim to form a single organization and raise funds with help from the Commercial Club.

Fraternal Day Planned For November 12

The executive committee set November 12 as Fraternal Day in Wil liston with a parade at 1 PM. Merchants may join floats and close shops 1 to 5 PM to support participants. After the march, events include speeches, music at Orpheum theatre, suppers, dances, and card playing with a registration booth for fraternal orders.

First sermon on saving truths of Christianity at Lutheran church

Pastor Mongon announces English service tonight with the first sermon lecture on the saving truths of Christianity starting with the moral law. Epping Man Shoots Self in Hotel Room

A young man in Epping identified as J. C. Tobey shot himself in a hotel room with a .32 caliber revolver. He survived, and doctors worked to save him. Tobey, in town about three months, had recent trouble amid a love affair, with his brother later arriving from Irene South Dakota to reveal his real name L. G. Nelson.
