Lawrence Brown, former city editor of the Graphic, died in Fremont Nebraska after a stomach hemorrhage. He had recently left the Graphic for Fremont Herald and then worked for a pursery concern. He was a son of Dr Mark D Brown of Hopkinsville Kentucky and had many friends in Williston.
National lecturer Thomas H Duffy of the M W A will speak in Williston on Wednesday November 16 at the court house. Admission is free and the public is invited. He will be joined by state deputy P J Murphy of Grafton ND for the event.
Judge Goss of the district court will hold a term in this city on November 14. Two petitions for druggist's permits will be heard and several default matters taken up. A. H. Brown is the clerk of court.
Tuesday marked the last day to register for the general election yet activity around the registration offices was quiet. Williston saw only about 75 percent of normal turnout at the registration headquarters as voters completed the prerequisite duty of citizenship.
In Probate Court on Monday October 31st hearings covered several estates. George Korman's estate issued letters of administration to Wm. G. Owens. Anna Bjerkele's estate received a license to sell real estate. Elling Anderson estate granted final decree of distribution. Charles R. Lambert's last will admitted to probate and A. J. Lambert named executor. Hulda Fellows appointed guardian of George Fellows' minor heirs.
The Willis ton audience welcomed the Robt. Meikle Company in the Walker lecture series. Each artist showed high talent and discerning selections with special praise for Frank Lloyd. The B and T club ladies deserve commendation for organizing these quality attractions.
The Supreme Court voided the thirty percent clause of the primary law clearing the way for Democratic candidates. Frank Banks, the Democratic nominee for county commissioner, can appear on the ballot and will challenge Republican nominee Austin Johanna.
Superintendent C Macken roth announces rapid progress on two new boilers at the electric light plant. An extension to the building was needed, and the old boilers will be repaired and removed gradually. The city anticipates a lighting system equal to any in the state within about ten days.
The Williams County register of deeds reports October receipts of 2272.84 dollars. It is the largest monthly total in the county’s history and reflects well on Register L. O. Higley and his assistants.
Miss Ella Martie of Charlson and Mr. Edd Mortensen of this city were married Monday evening October 31 at 8 30 in the groom's sister Mrs Frank Ross home with few friends present. Rev F S Hollett officiated and a sumptuous repast followed. The couple will reside in White Earth.
Oscar Hanson replies to claims by 8 S. Rodning that he is backed by Williston banking interests. He argues state law controls deposits and that he is not the candidate of any bank. Hanson pledges to serve the people without fear or favor if elected.
Former U S senator H. C. Hansbrough spoke at the Gates opera house in Williston on state and national issues. The event featured local Republican officials on stage, music by Prof. Onstad's band, and a push to elect the Republican state ticket amid strong audience approval.
Inga Slind aged 13 died suddenly Tuesday while en route to Williston from her home fourteen miles NW. She had planned to meet Rev Hanson for confirmation prep. After fainting five miles from Williston she was taken home and died of heart failure. Burial planned near Squires in the old neighborhood.
Miss Florence Mildred Wheeler, a Pilsbury college graduate, will give a musical recital Thursday evening November 10 at 8 30 at the M E church in Williston. Prof Onstad and Mr H R Evans will assist. doors open 8 oclock. A cordial invitation to the public. Cuddie Miller and Erickson visited for county division business.
Robt Slater sold the East Broad way and Golden Rule furniture stores last Saturday to Jackson and Bernard who immediately took possession and will continue the business in this city. The new firm includes A D Jackson and Van Bernard noted local men with strong county connections. Slater plans to focus on the feed business this winter.
Mandan and Bismarck district teachers registered with the North Dakota Educational Association praising past agitation for salaries. Grand Forks teachers paid dues. Fargo to host next year. President Smith of Wahpeton’s State Science School lauded for full faculty membership. The report urges statewide enrollment to seven hundred, urging dues to Clyde R. Travis in Mayville for a volume of proceedings.
