Baker Seeks Authority to Raise Up to Three Million Troops
Secretary Baker plans to tell the House Military Committee that the administration seeks blanket power to raise and mobilize at least three million men for France this year possibly more. Officials say 3,000,000 is feasible with strained resources, and another million could be mobilized if authority is granted. Provost Marshal Crowder announced a call of 8,985 draft men for training in 22 institutions.
