Battle Fronts Rage as French Push Near Compiegne

French forces drive toward Compiegne on a seven and a half mile front, threatening German gains in the center. Germans retreat on the left wing with heavy losses, taking 1,000 prisoners and several guns. Marines report Belleau Wood cleared with 300 prisoners. British seize 300 as Morlancourt advance continues. Trench battles and artillery flare across Macedonia and Dalmatia with mixed outcomes.

Williston Farmers Club Holds Luncheon Meeting

The Williston Township Farmers Club met at the Davis Hotel with about sixty attendees. Talks covered club work and future plans including graveling roads north of town. John Bruegger spoke on the Williston Creamery and E C Carney and C C Rieger gave talks. The next meeting is set for the Experimental Farm with date to be announced. The notice invites attendance at the Elks Flag Day service at the Armory on June 14 at two o'clock.

Big War Savings Drive Planned in Williams County

War Savings Stamps campaign locals set June 28 as a countywide day with committees led by C. C. Reiger aiming at a $360000 county quota. Meetings will be held in schoolhouses and towns to rally public support and Thrift Stamp awareness plus a wedding notice and local theater note finish the items in this issue.

Eight Men Leave June 5 for Special Train in the ALC

Eight men from Williams county depart June 5 for training at the Agricultural College in Fargo to join Uncle Sam’s service. They will study wood working, blacksmithing, auto repair, concrete work and wireless operation under government funding, preparing for army and civil life roles. The group includes Herbert F. Field, James J. Mullins, Henry James Newhouse, Colbourn Carlson Bergh, Ewald Forsgren, George L. Marelius, Matt Colwell, and Joseph A. Johnson.

Williston Flags Day Promises All Day of Festivities

Tomorrow Williston hosts a Flag Day celebration organized by the Elks with Red Cross events throughout the day. A 1 PM parade features diverse floats and groups, followed by an Armory program, Red Cross auction, races, and a carnival with a balloon ascent by Alexander.

Large Draft Quota to Leave Williams County for Camp Dodge

The largest draft quota to leave Williams county will entrain here June 25 for Camp Dodge. The men assemble June 24. A list of selected draftees includes Nels Geeson, Tioga. Morton W. Austin, Grinnell, Wash. Richard Lewis Phillips, Wheelock. Carl J Swanson, Hanks. and many others from Williston and surrounding areas. Canadian Sgt Chas Forbes of the 18th Canadian Battalion will visit Williams county this month to speak at multiple local venues. A fatal accident claimed Rev. C. E. Stinson of Williston after a crossing collision. funeral plans are pending. Death reports note the passing of young George Kalil. funeral arrangements followed. Also, Williston school board elects library board members including PF Currie and Gruhe for three-year terms.

Traveling Men's team to face Red Cross on local diamond

The Traveling Men's team, noted in recent weeks for strong play, will meet the local Red Cross squad next Sunday afternoon. The Red Cross players won about seventeen county games last season. A collection will be taken for the local Red Cross Chapter, and attendees will enjoy a fast game while aiding a worthy cause.
