Enem y submarines sink ships near the coast of America

The Navy Department reports American schooners sunk off the U S coast by enemy submarines. Naval and anti submarine forces mobilize along the shoreline to counter the threat as transports continue to France amid improved security. The Edward H Cole a 1791 ton Boston schooner was sunk 75 miles off Highlands New Jersey after two subs attacked and the crew fled.

Catholic Church Dedication Held In Williston May 30

The dedication of a new Catholic Church in Williston took place on Decoration Day with Bishop Wherle of the Bismarck Diocese presiding. About forty visiting priests attended, followed by Pontifical High Mass and a sermon by Rt. Rev. John Carroll of Helena. A dinner and supper were served, and a confirmation class of about thirty five was held in the afternoon.

Base Ball Season Started Sunday

The first game of the season was played here last Sunday between the Railroad Men and the Knights of the Grip, ending 10 to 8 in favor of the R. R. Men. Both teams used outside players due to men being away.

Seed Application Notice and Death of Amanda Olson

Seed application urged by County Food Administrator Edwin A Palmer for farmers to hold seed wheat until harvest certainty with limits set at one fifth of the seed planted this year. Death announced for Mrs Amanda H Harrison Olson of Minot born April 16 1885 Spokane Washington died May 31 1918. She married Martin Olie Olson December 28 1909 and leaves four children along with her parents Robert Henry and Mrs Grace Harrison and siblings. 108 Register For National Army In Williams County

On registration day June 5, 108 Williams County men who turned twenty one since last June 3 registered. The county’s four districts recorded Bonetrails 11 Alamo 13 and 1L alien Ray 26 and 4 aliens one alien enemy Williston 46 and 7 aliens.

Memorial Day Observed by Large Williston Crowd

A large Decoration Day gathering in Williston featured Rev. Natwick leading prayer, Rt. Rev. John Carroll delivering the day’s address, and remarks from Edwin A. Palmer of the Food Administration. Civil War veteran A. B. Saxton spoke, with a post-event parade and graveside services. The day included two flag parades in the afternoon and evening.

Food Administration Orders Household Flour Survey

The county Food Administrator Edwin A Palmer orders a survey of flour stocks in households. Each person must sign a card stating on hand amounts and potential overages will be reported and likely collected. Sugar permits at grocers require sign up for intended canning use and estimated quantities. Stores prepare to close shops on a set day in June.

Flag Day County Celebration Promises Historic Parade

June 1 in i'liston Williams county features hourly events from morning to midnight. A 10 30 band concert at Metzger corner and a Red Cross Carnival open all day. A 1 30 parade with J O Connor as speaker and a Red Cross auction at 4. Luncheon served all day, children's flag procession at Central school, Elks Flag Day exercises in the Armory, and an evening Carnival Parade with a Prof Alexander balloon ascent at 10. Americans Help Stop German Advance At Veuilly Chase

American and French troops fought a fierce action near Veuilly wood and along the Marne, driving back German forces and pinning remnants as prisoners. Machine gunners atop broken walls and hedges held key towns while gains north of Soissons to Chateau Thierry slowed and the allied line stabilized.

Call For Nurses Made by Local R C

A nationwide Red Cross nurses enrollment drive is set for this month in the Northern Division. All registered and graduate nurses are urged to report availability by contacting H. W. Seventy Boys to Leave for Camp Dodge June 24

Seventy boys from Williams County will depart for Camp Dodge on June 24 as part of the county draft call. This marks one of the largest draft calls yet from the county, with the full list to be published next week. Bowara J. Barrett of Minneapolis, visiting Williams County, toured eastern Montana and Williams County, reporting strong crops and favorable prospects. He noted grain up, frost recovery improving yields, and slight rain could help. overall crop conditions are very good. Flag Day will be remembered as a Red Letter day for Williams County.

School Board Election Conducted at Williston

A small vote held June 4 at Williston produced only forty five ballots. The elected members to the school board were Mr Gee Bruegger J Arthur Cunningham and Frank Plummer served as secretary.

National War Savings Day Set For June 26

Postwar drive concludes. pledge day approaches June 28 for War Savings Stamps and Thrift stamps. Citizens urged to contribute, showing support and patriotism across towns and states. Cardinal Gibbons endorses the effort and urges widespread participation.

Antelope Red Cross Auctiones Raises 2300 at Dance

Antelope Mont Red Cross chapter earned more than 2300 at a last Saturday event held in Antelope. Farmers supplied most auction items, businesses donated proceeds, and a large town dance followed. Manilla and Pearl Harvey returned from Minneapolis and Camp Dodge. Two big parades planned for Plage Day, one in afternoon and one in evening.
