Devils Lake Inter Ocean Dick Daeley has returned from the Red Lake reservation where he was successful in inducing a number of families to come to the Devils Lake district and take up land. He was over a large portion of the reservation and saw no good land. The greater portion of the reservation is swamp and the timber land eligible to entry is covered with poplar and has thin light soil that a couple of crops would exhaust. He says the settlers are being robbed right and left by land sharks in the real estate business and that there is a great deal of dissatisfaction on this account.
Williston North Dakota residents must pay the dog tax by June 20 1896 or face penalties under the dog licensing ordinance. Payments go to the village clerk who will register the dog and issue a check to the owner. By order of the Board of Trustees Frank Witp Village Clerk dated May 23 1896.
Hay permits to cut on school and state lands for 1896 will be sold at public auction by the county treasurer at the courthouse in Williston on June 6 1896 starting 10 am. Highest bidder must pay at least 2 dollars 50 cents per quarter section. By order of the board of university and school lands. Gro H Wisters Land Commissioner.
