Jury Convicts "Prof" Gordon In Liquor Case
A second trial last week on the charge of keeping liquor for sale resulted in Gordon's conviction after four witnesses testified to buying whiskey from him with the customary dollar bottle. A defense witness spoke of a distinct “Mystic Nod.” Gordon faces sentencing next Saturday. Also reported were new Williston commercial club directors and discussion of a potato warehouse plan amid progress notes.

Tragic mine death shocks North Dakota community
CL Smith, a veteran miner and former United Mine Workers leader, was killed January 26 in the Snyder mine under a delayed blast. The incident, witnessed by partner J Crosby, led to his death after rescue attempts and an inquest deemed unnecessary. Smith, born 1863 in Vinton, married to Brann in 1897, leaves three children and had lived in Williston since 1912.
