Despondent Hungarian Man Kills Self After Rejection
George Nemet, a 26 year old Hungarian coal miner, shot himself at the Staples farm near Spring Brook after his marriage proposal to Mrs Edna Rankin was refused. He left a letter to his father in Hungary and was found by Mrs Rankin with a dog barking at the scene. The body was brought to Slater Undertaking and interred as a county charge.

City Without Fire Protection After Water Main Break
A break in the city water main north of the G N track west of the round house left the city without water and fire protection for about thirty hours. Crews fought the frozen soil with dynamite and picks to replace a ten foot section, resuming pumping by Saturday evening. A stand pipe costing about six thousand dollars would provide 24 to 36 hours of standby water and fire safety.

August Hanson of the J. L. Case company visited the city Tuesday and completed a deal making the Case firm the owners of the Walker lots one block east of the Wiliston Mill. Plans to lease from the Great Northern and build south of the mill were abandoned in favor of purchasing the site. The original plans will be used and construction of a new structure to house the expanding Case business in this territory will start about February 1.

Water works were knocked out temporarily as the blaze damaged electric fixtures. extinguished by hand extinguishers from Bruegger Mercantile Co and kept under control. Loss estimated near two hundred dollars.
