Briquetting Plant Sighting Spells Possible Williston Investment

Robert L. Stewart of American Briquetting visits Williston to scout locating a briquetting plant. A machine can produce 100 tons every ten hours. briquets cost 3.50 to 4 per ton, rivaling lignite coal. They burn smokeless, keep form, and heat better than Pennsylvania soft coal per tests. Experts call the plan sound. $200,000 yearly farm product expenditure cited. Additionally, a Wisconsin accident at Rio details three killed or injured when Pioneer Limited hit a carriage at a grade crossing late night.

Children Killed On Railroad

G C Holley , a city resident for a year, learned Friday that his son and daughter were killed at Wyocona Wisconsin when struck by a passenger train while crossing the tracks. Holley left Friday night for home. The children had stayed here last fall and claimed land in the county. The tragedy followed shortly after the death of his wife.

Farmers Institute to Convene at Williston February 4 6

Western irrigation experts and Montana colleagues will attend the Williston Farmers Institute February 4 5 6. Judge Cowan May Resign From District Court

Devils Lake North Dakota January 17 report says Judge John F Cowan may resign the district judgeship to return to law practice and join Burke and Middaugh. insiders name P J McClory as favored successor unless governorship confirms him. States Attorney Scrumgaard already declares candidacy with others likely to join.

Great Northern Grants Reduced Rates to Farmers Institute

W B Overson chairman of the Farmers Institute committee reports from Great Northern Passenger Traffic Manager Craig that a rate reduction is issued. One regular first class fare and one third on the certificate plan for travel from Buford Minot and intermediate stations. Certificates showing full fare paid on the going trip will be honored for return tickets at one third rate. Minimum attendance feature waived in this concession.

Startling Charges Made in Coal Shortage Critique

Victor N Beckman, head of a nine man committee, says eastern railroads ship coal via southern routes to delay return of freight cars, harming North Dakota. He cites 1,500 cars stalled in St Paul, urges a national car exchange and a Roosevelt backed bill to force prompt rail movement, with a July 1 effective date.
