Buffalo January 14 Judge Hazel in the United States district court accepted a guilty plea from Elbert Hubbard and ordered him to pay 100 dollars after Hubbard declared he would stop printing naughty jokes in his publication. He faced charges of circulating through the mail a publication of indecent character.

Devils Lake Adopts Commission Form of City Government
By a 219 to 149 vote last Wednesday Devils Lake chose the commission form of government, replacing the ward system. The city will certify the result to the secretary of state, and the governor will issue letters patent enabling self government under the new system. An election for a president and four commissioners must occur within twenty days after the letters patent. Local reaction is one of widespread satisfaction.

Ray Pioneer’s Death After Night of Drinking
J E Bromeley a farmer four miles north of the city died last Tuesday morning from a self inflicted gunshot wound. After a day of heavy drinking he went to his home and, brandishing a loaded revolver at his head, the weapon discharged killing him instantly. The coroner ruled the incident accidental.

E B Andrus, longtime city salesman for Williston Grocery Company, is promoted to manager succeeding A G Jacobson who has led the firm since it began here.
