The Useful Library lecture by Clarence Wesley Summer

Clarence Wesley Summer will speak on The Useful Library in our city under the Library Board on Wednesday evening the 17th of January. Summer, Indiana native and Earlham student turned librarian, has held multiple library roles including at the University of Missouri and the North Dakota State University library, and was named vice president of the State Library Association last fall.

Investigation ends as Poe seeks city records review

The state investigation into Will T. Poe ex city auditor halted after Poe requested access to city records with Bank Examiner Frank Wilson to support his claims before the pardon board. Attendees at Saturday nights session included Lieut. Governor Burdick Mayor Jackson and other officials. The meeting opened with the States Attorney addressing the publicity of the investigation.

Train Wreck Incurred On The Oriental Limited northwest of Fargo

The Oriental Limited derailed west of Fargo when a loose tire on the observation car caused a wheel to fail and the standard sleeper rolled down a six foot embankment. E. H. Weil was the only noted passenger hurt, with others uninjured or lightly shaken as trains run unusually slow in extreme cold.

South Dakota Endorses Taft for renomination in Huron meetup

In Huron on January 5, South Dakota Republicans adopted strong resolutions endorsing President Taft and his reelection. Secretary James Wilson praised Taft in a conversational address, kicking off a vigorous campaign. Delegates elected, party leaders expressed support, and a social event followed with Japanese-themed refreshments and a charitable collection.

Japanese Evening at Library Draws Large Flowery Kingdom Theme

Nearly 175 attendees filled the Library auditorium for Japanese Evening hosted by the Civic League. The room glowed with flowery oriental decor from lanterns and chrysanthemum festoons to lights stretching from Williston to Yedda. The program featured Hazel Stenberg on piano, Robert Heffernan in Japanese regalia with Little Ah Sid, a High School quartet with encore, and performers Miss Baldwin with Japanese Lullaby and Professor Forester on violin, all in period costume.

The new school building at Bu ford will be dedicated next Friday evening with the Williston orchestra providing the instrumentals. The modern facility is a point of pride for our sister city and many local citizens are expected to attend to witness the school’s launch on its educational mission.

The Rev A V T Richeson former pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Cambridge today made a written confession to the effect that he poisoned his former sweetheart Avis Linnell. He expresses deep penitence and a wish to atone while avoiding a public trial. The confession was released by his counsel after a courthouse conference with the district attorney and judge. no details were given.
