Annual Church Meeting Reports Growth and Elections

The Congregational Church held its annual meeting with about 250 attendees enjoying Ryge's Orchestra and a large supper before listening to reports and toasts. Officers were elected, building and general funds reviewed, and membership rose to 186 with 38 received and six dismissed. The Sunday School grew 50 percent in average attendance to 150 weekly.

British informed of Washington cargo certification decision

London reports the British government was informed that Washington authorities will certify exact contents of American cargoes before ships depart U S ports. This move is seen as aiding the resolution of disputes prompting Washington notes over British interference with American shipping.

Doings of Banking Board on 18th Meeting

The banking board met on the 18th and reviewed routine matters. It named the state banks and counties involved, noting capital figures and locations in Trenton State Bank, Williams county, and Dodge Duns county with a capital of $10,000.

Sale of Licenses Increases During Prohibition Era

E B McCutcheon reports for 1914 and the 1911 12 biennium show stricter enforcement boosting hunting license sales by nearly 11000. 1918 licenses rose 4500 over 1912. 1914 gunstar up 2100 over 1913. Arrests 1914 were 99 with 85 convictions. 1918 arrests 74 with 70 convictions. Ward county leads resident licenses with 1667 issued in 1918.

Mrs. Bloom’s Postmistress Nomination Rejected Again

Washington reports that the nomination of Mrs. Marport Bloom for postmistress at Devils Lake North Dakota was rejected by the Senate for a second time. Bloom serves under a recess appointment from President Wilson and faces renewed debate over patronage.

Springbrook Man Dies at Home in Apparent Suicide

Henry D. Schaff, a Springbrook resident who ran the Victoria Elevator, was found dead in bed last Thursday with a 22 rifle by his head. Coroner Distad held a post mortem and ruled suicide. Funeral services were Monday at Epping Cemetery with Rev Distad officiating. Schaff, about 45, was well known in the area and county.

Acknowledgement of School Relief Fund Donation

The Rev Harriss received nine dollars and seventy five cents from Professor Nelson of Wheelock for the scene relief to unit. The funds have been used in Williston to purchase sour.

Lawyer Doughty Wins Disbarment Case Victory

Langdon North Dakota Attorney H B Doughty a Cavalier county veteran practicing in Williston won a Supreme Court ruling dismissing disbarment proceedings. The case stemmed from embezzlement allegations over funds entrusted by a client. Doughty, a pioneer Cavalier lawyer dating to 1886, was known for criminal practice and later worked in Olga and St Thomas.

The Willis ton Commercial club holds its annual meeting in the Odd Fellows Hall dining room on Monday evening January 9 at o o'clock. Directors for the coming two year period will be elected. New County Officials Sworn In Across Board

The board of county commissioners met Monday to certify four changes in offices, including Ingwaldson as Register of Deeds and Owens as State’s Attorney. Anna Peterson becomes county superintendent of schools, with Ole Ingvaldson and M J Borden taking roles as Register and Commissioner respectively. Retiring officials praise solid records as Miss Peterson begins deputy duties, with Lena Crow and Bertha Palmer named deputies and Wm G Gwens as state attorney.

Exposition Opens Today in San Diego Pan American Event

The Panama California Exposition opened in San Diego at midnight with fireworks and a formal ceremony. Delegations from across the United States and foreign powers attended, including William G. McAdoo and Count de Salasar. Dedicatory services and speeches will follow on the grounds.

Inheritance Tax Declared Valid by State Supreme Court

The North Dakota Supreme Court upheld the last session's inheritance tax law. Court Hears Ray Creamery Suit and Evans vs Williston Motor

District court opened the week with the Ray Creamery suit whose jury split the disputed amount. Later Dick Evans sued Williston Motor Company for damages to his automobile after a repair mishap, with the verdict returned for the plaintiff at $225.
