Roosevelt Accepts Nomination Wish in Letter to Governors

New York Feb 26 Governor Johnson of California notes Roosevelt has come out in the open for the presidential nomination. Roosevelt states he will accept the nomination if tendered and will adhere to the decision until the convention. He urges direct primaries to let the people express their preference.

Waterworks Fire Causes Heavy Loss Near Town

A Monday fire at Finley Barnfather’s waterworks west of town destroyed fifty barrels of water and burned the tank Dump and other fixtures. A stove used to heat a tank overheated the pipes igniting woodwork, nearly a total loss with damages estimated at 150 to 200 dollars.

District Court Session Inge Leighton Here First of Week

Judge Fai presided as Leighton held a brief district court session in chambers. Two hearings were continued to later dates. Printers Supply Co vs Whitehead continued to March. Miller vs Nichols et al continued due to witness testimony and attorney illness. Action to quiet title in Divide county. Judge Fisk drove to Minot to handle jury cases for Leighton.

August Esch Dies After Typhoid Pneumonia at 30

August Esch, 30, formerly of Arlington and Williston, North Dakota, died this morning at 5:30 at Wittenberg hospital after a two week illness. He was born in Germany and came to Iowa twenty years ago with his parents, later moving to North Dakota. He married Marie Doyle on August 16 in Williston. Surviving are his wife, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Herman Esch, two brothers Herman and Henry, and two sisters in Arlington, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock Friday at the home on West Broadway, with interment in Arlington. Services are under the K of P lodge.

Friends celebrate twentieth wedding anniversary at Mc Chesney place

Neighbors and friends of Mr and Mrs John Catey who reside north of the city on the Mc Chesney place gathered last Monday night to surprise the couple on their twentieth wedding anniversary. About 45 guests enjoyed games music and elaborate refreshments marking a pleasant evening.

Garrison Return From East Buying Trip

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Garrison returned Wednesday evening from a three week eastern trip. Mrs. Garrison accompanied him to Minneapolis. He visited Chicago and Cleveland on a buying trip visiting ladies furnishing, suit and cloak houses. Farm loans H. V. Smith. 10.

Fire Destroys McChesney Home in West Lawn

Saturday morning blaze nearly wiped out Geo. McChesney residence as Mrs. McChesney started breakfast fire and alarm spread. Family, awakened late by gathering kids, escaped in their night clothes. building and contents feared total loss with $600 insured value. Attorney William Owens was in Fargo over the weekend.

New Office Opens as Dr Distad Moves In

Miss Anna Singer of Fargo arrived in the city Sunday to join Dr O E Distad in his relocated office. Distad moved from the Heffernan building to the Union block, occupying Dr Kron's former space and taking over the Kron practice. He bought the X ray machine and related electrical gear, with wiring and equipment inspected and brought to proper order. Dr Kron is presently east on a visit and will decide a Montana location upon return.

New 18000 Pound Oil and Gas Tractor Unveiled at Racine

J I Case introduced a giant eighteen thousand pound tractor from Racine on Monday. The machine features double cylinders auto steer roller bearings and enclosed gearing. Mr Hersey from the Wisconsin factory is present for a street demonstration Saturday. Five tractors were sold in the first three days of the week.

Pythian smoker marks forty ninth anniversary celebration

The Wil lis ton lodge held a lavish smoker on February 21 with about 150 Knights and guests. Toast master Tom Lennon led performances while Attorney William Owens spoke on Pythian ideals. Readings, solos, and vaudeville acts kept the crowd lively. the evening was praised as among the most pleasant lodge affairs in the city.

Mrs Greer Entertained by Williston Ladies Aid

The Ladies Aid of the Methodist church hosted a reception for Mrs T W Greer who moves to Plentywood Montana today. About thirty members and friends attended Tuesday afternoon at Mrs L W Coulter’s home. Music conversation and refreshments filled the two thirty to six o clock hours. The group gave Mrs Greer a signet ring as a keepsake from her Williston friends.

Sausage Plant Accident Hurts Two Workers

Joe Matic, employed at Model Market, injured his hand while sawing wood and helping make sausage on Wednesday. Dr LaBerge, treating Matic, also injured his hand in the operation chair.

Scott men in court charged with removing mortgaged stock

Scott men James McCann and Oscar Al ataad were arrested on a complaint charging removing mortgaged stock from the state within five days. The stock sold under a chat tel mortgage was moved to Montana, depriving the owner of a redemption. A hearing occurred before Justice Aaen, moved to Justice Fields on change of venue, continued to March 8. Each defendant released on $200 bond with W. S. Davidson and A. D. Paulson signing.

Damon and Pythias Play Planned by K Of P Lodge

At Monday's K of P meeting the lodge agreed to stage Damon and Pythias in March. Tom Lennon will direct and act, with costumes from a Pythian house. The five act drama by John Banim, revised by Shiel, highlights a friendship's sacrifice. Cast work starts next week. production before April 1 under S. D. Scott.

Marcus Kellerman a bass baritone appears Tuesday March 12 as the fourth number of the Civic League lecture course. Praised by the nation and formerly with the Damrosch Orchestra on tour he now performs under Haensel Jones of New York City management who booked him for the Civic League.

Retardation of Pupils in Schools

North Dakota and nationwide struggle with retarded pupils older than their class. Schools test ungraded rooms and two teacher setups, promote by readiness, and push medical inspection. Williston reports 31 percent retarded, high in eighth grade due to country-to-town arrivals. Officials plan more frequent promotions and department work to address the issue.

Goulson Resigns to Take New Post with Boe Brothers

C L Goulson, previously in O A Honge's office in Williston, resigns and starts new duties with Boe Brothers on Monday. He came from Montevideo Minnesota seven months ago and made many friends. A former teacher with a first class certificate, he may return to teaching for a remunerative salary offer.
