North Dakota officials announce wheat flour substitutes and sale limits for households and farms. Regulations set substitute mixes, family purchase caps, and enforce baker license forfeiture for noncompliance. Sugar limits specify per person monthly allowances and town or distant sales caps. In sports, Culbertson defeats Williston after an on-court altercation involving local business figures.
Washington reports a two ounce bread ration for hotels restaurants and dining cars effective immediately. Telegrams were sent to hotel representatives across states detailing the new wheat bread limit with exceptions for corn oatmeal or bran breads and roll weights. Observance is mandated on wheatless Monday and Wednesday meatless Tuesday and porkless Saturday with one wheatless and one meatless meal daily.
The Williston High School quint suffered its first loss of the season, beaten by Culbertson 44 to 30. Culbertson controlled play and pulled away in the second half to hand Williston its first defeat.
The Senior class won first honors in the eighth annual Carney Song Contest with a senior class composition. The purchase machinery for Thrift and War Savings Stamps grows rapidly with 185,000 agencies already established and 350,000 added by January. One million sales stations will operate under authorized agents, with 50,000 post offices and 29,000 banks aiding. 8,000 Savings Committees, 9,000 interstate firms, and 115,000 more agencies expand access. An ongoing push promotes local War Savings societies formed by ten or more people affiliated with the National War.
A mob of over a thousand burned Jim McKherron at a stake in Eatt Springs after forcing a confession with hot irons. He had shot two white men near McMinnville, and was captured after a battle earlier today. A sister of one victim denounced him as the slayer.

Coroner's jury in Dickinson returns murder verdict on an unknown man found crushed in a box car loaded by hand at Zenith mine, near Dodge. Stark and Dunn county authorities obtained evidence and consider the man crawled in and was crushed by coal. Deputy J T Harvey disputes the theory and investigates with Stark county.
Evidence suggests the victim was murdered between Zenith and Mandan and placed in a coal-filled car. Lumps of coal were arranged to conceal the body while pockets showed rifling marks. Railroad police and county authorities are pursuing the identity and killer as investigation proceeds slowly through the counties the car traversed.
By Tuesday night a week after the Tuscania wreck 171 bodies had been laid to rest along the Scottish coast. The dead include 131 identified Americans and 33 unidentified, plus 4 identified and 8 unidentified crew members.
Frederick Rudolph Zahl aged 63 died Sunday at seven AM at his Zahl ranch after a brief illness. He left a widow, two sons Rudolph Jr and Herman, a sister in Minnesota, and a brother in Minnesota. Zahl served as Williston mayor and county treasurer, later ranching at Zahl. He was born in Germany in 1855 and valued as a leading citizen and businessman. Funeral services were held at his home and Congregational church with large attendance.

He stated the enemy should acknowledge that American transports are ready to carry troops safely.
