Williston hosts a Monday masquerade ball at Gates Hall to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday and boost the band’s welfare. An eight piece orchestra, best dressed prizes, and dancing follow musical programing with tickets at one dollar and spectators admitted for that price.

The young men of the Methodist church plan an unusual social Friday evening. The event will feature unusual games unusual refreshments and likely unusual clothing.
The pupils of Miss McDonald's music class presented a recital at James Memorial Library last Saturday evening. The program started at eight with a greeting song and featured instrumental selections by Cleo McLeod Murray Champine Elle Goldschlager Ruth Asbury Viola Borden Myrtle Swanson Sarah Goldschlager Bessie Walker Evelyn Forster and Reba Rawson. Miss Opperman sang A Perfect Day and the event drew a large crowd of parents and friends who praised the young musicians.
Agnes R Gargan, teacher at Rose Valley school four miles south of Trenton, died from freezing the night of Friday January 26 while walking home amid a blizzard. Her body was found in a coulee four miles south of Slater ranch on the following Thursday afternoon. Search delayed by mistaken home whereabouts and custody at boarding place.
George Dickins returns from a stay at Alhambra Hot Springs Montana where the healing waters left him spry as a sixteen year old and able to run.
Deputy Sheriff Jarstad tracked clothing shipment to Billy Lester tied to Warland Montana and Libby Montana. Lester, released on $500 bond for pigow ing, fled four weeks ago and was arrested near a lumber camp before extradition issues. He awaits action at the county jail.
Sheriff Olson roams the Crosby Ambrose area this week on business connected to the D. W. Kelly $10,000 damage suit. The trial is set for U S District Court in Bismarck on March 5 as Williams County officials push for a favorable outcome.

Doctor James E. Boyle of the State University will lecture at Gates Hall on Thursday evening February 15. He will explore the commission plan of city government, presenting arguments for and against its adoption and examining democratic means to govern and finance cities efficiently.
Photographer Olson produced flash photographs of the Elks during their first anniversary celebration on January 25. The images highlight familiar faces and give a clear view of the hall and its members at the event.
Mr J G VanCleve hosted the M E church Sunday school class at his home last Friday evening. Sixteen boys attended, games were played and refreshments served, and the group praised their membership in the M E Sunday school and Van Cleve's class.
Four candidates received the third degree at K. P. hall on Monday. De Forest Ward past Grand Chancelor of Minnesota addressed the lodge on Pythianism before military exercises. A class of four is set for next Monday evening to begin the first degree.

The Williston Commercial Club considers incorporating a company with 150 shares at ten dollars each to fund a band benefit. A petition seeks city council support of 750 per year, paid monthly, while other actions include aiding an agricultural high school, honoring President Anderson, and seeking 2500 for farming from County Commissioners.
Teachers gather at the County Superintendent's office today and tomorrow to obtain the document authorizing them to instruct the next generation. The examination tests their mental agility and readiness to teach.
Fred Smith ex-soldier of the Civil War and pioneer North Dakota resident died at Wittenberg hospital from complications of old age. Born April 1837 in New York, he served in a New York cavalry regiment, moved to Minnesota, then to North Dakota, settling in Minot and later Williston where he and William Ross ran a blacksmith and wagon shop. He was Williston city marshal about twelve years ago, later lived in Nelson and Belelerk, and then Wheelock for five years. He had a wife and sister in Denver, Colorado. Services were held at the M E church in Williston, conducted by Rev. Holleté, with interment in Williston cemetery under G A R rites.
Funeral services for Mrs A J Joyce were conducted by Rev W W Keltner at the Breathers church on Saturday afternoon. The sermon drew on Mark 14 8, She hath done what she could. Interment followed at Painted Wood cemetery. Attending from afar were J B Emmons of Menominee Wis and Mrs Joyce mother of A H Joyce who will stay to help raise seven children left without their mother.
The Star Theatre presents Harmony Clipper Trio with singing dancing and talking on Monday and Tuesday, plus special scenery. On Thursday through Saturday the Musical Millers perform comedy singing novelty dancing with acts of speaking.
The High School will stage Balfe's Bohemian Girl with Prof Forster as Coaht Arnhein governor of Presburg. Cast includes C F Currie Thaddeus exile Pole Walter McGuhey Floresteim nephew of the Counts Alfred Jennison Devilshoof Gypsy chief Mrs Hardaway Arline daughter of the Count Miss Moe Queen of the Gypsies Miss Monroe pianist.
