Walsh retires from banking to direct railroads
John R. Walsh ends his banking career and plans to supervise the Chicago Southern and Southern Indiana rail lines from offices at Gran Central depot. The Chicago Southern is nearly finished and will connect to Chicago via Chicago Terminal tracks. A surplus over 1,000,000 will remain to be distributed to stockholders after debts are paid.

Fatal Mississippi wreck claims passenger and injures six
A Mississippi collision on the Illinois Central six miles north of Holly Springs killed Mrs. James Wade of Sidon and left six others injured. Two coaches derailed and plunged 25 feet down an embankment. Mrs Wade was crushed to death and one of the injured may die.
