Co operative Independent Marketing Plan for Pork and Wheat

Asher L. Burdick reports that independent co operative packing plants in North Dakota could provide a practical home market and source of home supply for pork producers. At a Chicago convention he consulted stock raisers, packers, and experts, including Dr. T. B. Huff, noting small plants can succeed with efficient management when focused on pork rather than cattle.

Wenz to Speak at Williams County Short Course

Alfred Wenz, now associate editor of the Dakota Farmer, will aid at the Third Annual Williams County Short Course in Williston from February 8 to 11. He specializes in home marketing and farm subjects and will join several talented speakers in a program aimed at all Williams County residents and neighboring areas.

Boys and Girls Institute Hosts County Winners

County Superintendent Petersen notes five county youths among 117 prize winners at the annual Boys and Girls Institute. Winners include Port Lindholm and Edith Cote, with Bert Lindholm taking corn race honors and Edith Cote winning the 30 yard dash. Faculty from A. C. and Washington praised for demonstrations, lectures, and county-wide tours.

Fire Ravages Winston Business District in Medicine Lake Fire

A Sunday morning blaze in Medicine Lake destroyed the J. O. Johnson hardware store and the general store owned by John Shikany and Kassis Bros. Residents fought the flames but the two buildings and their stock worth about $8,000 were left as smoldering debris with $4,500 insured.

Offender From Montana Is Apprehended Near Zahl

A 19 year old named Fred Jenson fled Montana with a Saxon runabout and two shotguns belonging to others. Sheriff Duggan’s card helped locate the suspect northwest of town. Deputy Strom confirmed the lead and Jenson was arrested while working under his own name at the Don Wilder farm. The vehicle was found near Zahl and the Montana sheriff traveled to secure his return.

W. W. Corbett Hearing Postponed to December 17

The hearing in the case of W. W. Corbett of Buford charged with assault with a deadly weapon upon John Renville was postponed again. The new date is December 17 as Renville remains hospitalized and unable to testify.

District Court Prepares Heavy Calendar This Week

District court opened its December term under Judge Frank Be Fisk with 38 criminal and 46 civil cases listed. Proceedings included guilty pleas by jail inmates, appointments of counsel, and several dismissals. A January 4 recess was planned to finish preparing a calendar for the jury.

Death Calls Myrtie M Todd Deputy Treasurer

Myrtie M Todd a deputy in the county auditor and treasurer offices for seven years died at six a m Wednesday December 15 after a month long illness. Born 1869 in Elmira New York she came to South Dakota and Williston in 1906 where she served faithfully until sickness. Funeral at the Paulson home and Congregational church at two o clock Friday. she was active in the Rebekahs and well known in business and social circles.
