Whiskey Raids Bring Multiple Arrests Around Mondak and Williston

A December crackdown by the sheriff and Great Northern Special Agent led to several arrests for whiskey transport from Mondak to Williston and Minot. Labo Tsvesteoff, Carl Schmidt, Frank Herman, R. Carl, William Kelley, and Leonard Betterath faced county jails or bonds after seizures totaling thousands of dollars. The racketeers, believed to be part of an organized gang, evaded authorities along routes north and east, reducing expected Christmas whiskey trade.

More Women Wanted by Local Red Cross

The Williston Red Cross appeals for women to help with sewing for service members. A large allotment must be shipped by the 21st of the month. Sewing rooms are at the Elks Home. report there afternoons 2 to 5, excluding Sundays and Mondays. Do not desert the boys who have won the war. they must be clothed and fed.

Former Williston Man Missing From Front

Edward Nordin nephew of E J Swedlund of this city and former jewelry store employee is reported missing at the front. His photo ran in the Minneapolis Tribune with his home listed as Minneapolis. He may have been taken captive during scout duty in No Man's Land at night and the capture may not yet be reported.

George Gilmore Appointed to Williston School Board

George A. Gilmore was appointed at a Williston School Board meeting to fill the unexpired term of the late Edwin A. Palmer. Gilmore, a longtime city resident, will serve until the next election in July and is praised for his commitment to community welfare.

Cattle Men 10 Hold Stock Sale In Williston Pavillion

The Missouri Yellowstone Valley Shorthorn Breeders association directors met December 3 to plan a mid March stock sale at Williston pavillion with many purebred shorthorns. A Sidney sale on December 20 will send two carloads from near Williston. The association covers Williams, Divide, McKenzie, Ward portions in North Dakota and Sheridan and Richland in Montana. Members urge farmers to invest, noting purebreds run $250+ versus $35–$80 for scrubs. The group currently records about 450 head in membership.

Wil liston High School students organized a Victory Boy and Victory Girl club to raise funds for the United War Work Campaign. Over Monday and Tuesday, 376 was pledged with 130 paid in cash. Sixty students each pledged 5. The city total now exceeds the county and local quotas.

Red Cross Auction Planned for Donated Hospital Goods

The local Red Cross plans an upcoming auction of blankets and other articles donated during the influenza hospital era. Items have been cleaned and fumigated with no disease risk. Auction dates will be announced later.

Community Program Opens at Orpheum Next Week

The Federated Community Association presents four double programs starting Monday evening December 16 and continuing Tuesday afternoon and evening December 17 at the Orpheum Theatre. Carolina Jubilee Singers and lecturer John G. Duling headline the first show with low admission prices of ten and twenty five cents. Seat sale is limited to 350. children under 14 must be accompanied.

Ruth's Circle Organized Tuesday

An auxiliary club of First Lutheran Church named Ruth's Circle was organized at Rev. Geo. S. Natwick's home Tuesday evening. About forty girls will join bi weekly meetings. a constitution and by laws were adopted with officers elected: President Helga Peterson, Vice President Valborg Mjilde, Secretary Agnes Westby, Treasurer Magna Monson. Mrs Natwick hosted a luncheon after the business portion.
