Gifford Merrifield, long active in the city and once connected with the Williston Laundry, died at his home in Terry Montana early this week from pneumonia. He moved from here two or three years ago. The body will likely be sent to Fargo for interment.

City Library To Open Monday For Circulation
The city library will open on Monday December 9 for circulation of books. Painters are still in progress, so rendering rooms may be unusable for a few days after opening. No fines will be charged for the nine week interval. circulation continues as if the delay never happened. There is demand for more books for soldiers, especially fiction and detective stories, and books for embarkation ports in France are urgently needed.

No Educational Meeting in City Canceled by Health Board

Former Williston Man Dies of Flu and Pneumonia
George Hicks, former owner of the Williston Bakery, died at his home near Arnegard Friday from pneumonia after a bout with flu. He had lived in McKenzie county for years and owned a notable farm. A member of the Williston lodge of R. of ?, and the Moose, he left a wife and four children. Funeral was held Monday at 3 o'clock at Alexander with interment there.

Sheriff Mackenroth pursued two young men, Joe Burns and Jacob Laurance also known as Albert Burns, suspected of stealing W. H. Denny’s auto and shoplifting from Weil’s and Botton’s stores. They fled to Chinook then sold the car to a Williston buyer who plans to return the vehicle. Marmon’s First Influenza Victim
Clarence Johnson of Marmon, born April 5 1808 in Minneapolis, died November 28 1918 at Marmon North Dakota after a brief illness. He moved to North Dakota in 1914 with his parents, helped run the family farm, and left behind his mother Mrs Ida Johnson, a brother Ernest, and several relatives. Funeral services were held at the house and burial followed at Boat Fork Cemetery beside his father.
