Fargo has sparked a fierce debate over the North Dakota teachers insurance and retirement fund set to start January 1, 1914. Critics contend the compulsory assessments, roughly $15 annually, will underfund future benefits and resemble a risky, unsound pension scheme.
St Paul Minna Dee Mea John A. Johnson widow of the late Governor Johnson will marry William Alley Smith of Pittsburgh Pa on Christmas day at the home on Summit avenue in St Paul. The couple will reside in Pittsburgh after January 1 and return to St Paul for holiday visits. About sixty relatives and out of town guests will attend. Mrs Johnson was formerly Eleanor Preston of Rochester and widow of Johnson who died September 21 1909.
The Wittenberg Hospital Auxiliary will present an entertainment event in Library Hall on December 17 1918 with refreshments served. The program remains to be announced and details are forthcoming.
Skaters flock to Willis ton this fall as the large slough west of the city yields superb ice. The popular Black block rink in Mormon addition is flooded and crowds enjoy the healthful pastime on Saturdays and Sundays.

The court records show Ern est Carlson paying a fine and costs for intoxication. John Thompson received a ten dollar fine and fifteen days, sentence suspended for age and conduct. Robt Wilson vs Arthur W Cascaden verdict for the complainant and case carried to district court. Mary Frederickson of the Williston Hotel won $100 against Bob Jean for mistreatment, with costs charged to the defendant. case appealed.
In Plentywood, Jack Dugan, undersheriff of Peerless Sheridan, locates Cleve Culbertson, linked to the murder near Ray, N D, after a $200 reward notice from Canada spurs detection. He traces the stolen horse and rifle, guiding Deputy Strom and showing the suspect’s custody at Williams County jail.
Members of the Uaa renows lodge have decided to form a club limited to lodge members, separate from the order. Arrangements with the lodge enable use of basement rooms, which are being cleaned and painted, promising fine club rooms in the city.

Affidavits alleging prejudice against the judge and county were filed in the Charles Baldwin case and the matter has been moved to Minot for trial.
Cleve Culbertson was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the Dillon family killings on October 21. The jury deliberated six hours, returning a life sentence to be imposed by Judge Fise next Monday. The trial traced Culbertson’s movements from Canada to Plentywood Crosby and the Dillon home, with defense arguing insanity and lack of motive.
On October 22 1915 D T Dillon signed a dying declaration in the presence of witnesses including Geo H Moellring E Distad MD W B Scott MD. Dillon stated he believed he would die soon, was in his right mind, and that the facts were true to his knowledge.
Testimony closed in the Culbertson case with arguments on the insanity plea. Witnesses described Culbertson's actions after the shooting, his hotel register incident, and the discovery of the Dillon family victims, including 13 year old Lela and Mrs. Dillon. Dr. Dillon testified to his injuries and the family tragedy, while others recounted secondary details of the night.
An examination for the certified public accountant in North Dakota will be held at the State University in Grand Forks on January 29 1914. Applications should be made to the State Board of Accountancy thirty days before the examination. John Shaminski of Plengy was shot Saturday night and died Sunday. He was taken to hospital. a 32 caliber revolver discharged, the shooter claiming accidental discharge. The alleged shooter was arrested at Plentieswood and jailed.

Supt Schollander and Farm Expert Hall helped organize a new Muddy Valley Farmers Club at the Palmer schoolhouse Tuesday evening. About twenty members joined with W H Posey as president and Larkin Hart as vice president. first meeting set for December 29 at 10 AM with an ambitious program planned.

The wedding of Margaret Perry to Elgerd Bell took place Sunday afternoon at 280 o'clock December 7 at the home of Mr and Mrs Perry on West Avenue. Reeve Wall officiated at the Methodist church ceremony with the ring service. Guests attended in Winiaw hall, and a reception followed with ample refreshments. The couple departed for a farm home one mile from the city. Present were Mr and Mrs Perry, the bride’s parents, Mrs Fell, mother of the groom, Mrs Perry's mother, Tom Howard, Katherine Schumacher, Mrs Eygewie Wall, and Master Ralph Perry.
A rumor spreads that East Fork farmer Gavin Miller found a fortune near Williston. Reports grow from five dollar bills to a “big roll” hauled by a four horse team to a mine. He says part will fund a rest room for imaginations and the rest an insane asylum for questioners.
Henry Jorgenson a 14 year old boy of Eden Jorgenson and Mormon died at City Hospital on Wednesday from appendicitis. He was stricken Friday and treatment began Monday after the appendix ruptured. Despite operation efforts, he did not survive.
