Williston Delegates Named for Rivers and Harbors Congress

Governor John Burke announced the North Dakota delegation to the National Rivers and Harbors Congress in Washington D C on the seventh to ninth of the month. Williston will be represented by Mayor Bruegger and J W Jackson with other members from Bismarck Cando Grand Forks and Williston as listed.

Nelson Knocked Out by Moran in San Francisco Bout

In San Francisco on November 28 Battling Nelson was stopped in the eleventh round by Owen Moran the English lightweight. Nelson dropped five times and failed to beat the ten count despite urging the referee to continue. Moran controlled the fight using footwork and precise punches leading to a decisive victory and a potential match with Wolgast. Nels Odegard of Poplar Montana visited the city on Friday.

Girl 13 Saves Mail Carrier From Icy Break in Rainy River

In Rainy River Ontario on a Saturday a 13 year old girl Lizzie Allewa risked her life on thin ice to pull postal carrier J A Hyer from near-drowning. As Hyer urged her to release him she clung on calling for help until long poles arrived and a rescuer pulled them both to safety. Assistant superintendent Phelps oversees northern county schools this week.

River Bank Grading Near Completion for 1000 Foot Extension

Grading on the river bank for the thousand foot extension to the rip rap is nearly finished. John Penson, contractor for willows, is loading cars at Marley for delivery this week. The completed work will protect the river bank to the Little Muddy.

Clarification on Stevens School Salary in Districts

Officials in Stoney Creek and Nelson districts clarify a long known misassignment of Stevens school salary. County superintendent Mrs. Tatem first revealed the error years ago, but decisive action only began after the Stoney Creek district hired Attorney A. J. Bessie.

Ruth Craven Company to Perform in Williston Next Week

Ruth Craven company will appear at the Star theatre in Williston next week. The twelve actors will be joined by regular vaudeville acts. The advertisement on the paper’s another page lists the nightly plays.

Government Files Suit to Dissolve Sugar Trust

New York, Nov 28. The government filed a long anticipated Sherman anti trust suit to dissolve the American Sugar Refining company. The petition, 221 pages, accuses Havemeyer and partners of an unlawful combination to restrain trade and monopolize raw and refined sugar and by products across states and nations.

Pipe Work Advances for City Water Connection to Experimental Farm

Jobo Penson reports rapid progress on digging a ditch for a two inch water main to the Experimental farm. The project, contracted by the state, aims to connect the farm with city water. Penson expects the pipe to arrive any day. C. Carney spent Sunday in Minot.

Vaudeville at State Prison Delights North Dakota Inmates

Two hundred prisoners at the state penitentiary in Bismarck were treated to a vaudeville show from a local amusement house. The program included three acts, moving pictures, and an illustrated song that moved many inmates to tears. The manager accepted a carved cane from a life convict. Miss Vivian Macer visited from Springbrook and returned Monday.

Butler Lamb Dies Suddenly at 38 in Towner North Dakota

Butler Lamb, a noted state tennis champion and longtime attorney in Towner, died of heart failure at his home. He was 38, leaving a wife and two children. Lamb had won the 1909 North Dakota state tennis title and had been a strong contender for other honors. He had briefly sought the Democratic nomination for Congress before withdrawing. Funeral services are planned in Chicago, his former home.

Tenneson Wins Fargo Daily News Bid at $30,000

The Fargo Daily News plant sold to B. G. Tenneson for 30000. He is the sole bidder and will take possession immediately with publication to continue under existing policy for now. The Courier is expected to take control, after delays in securing presses and materials.

Mr and Mrs L C Nostdal traveled from Rugby to join the Bergman family in the city for Thanksgiving. Mrs Nostdal is the sister of Mrs Bergman, tying two households by marriage and kinship.

Parliament Dissolved As Liberal Plan Goes To Nation

London November 28 The second parliament of the reign of King Edward VII, elected February 15, was dissolved to present the prerogatives of the Lords crisis to the country. The king's speech was brief and noted with colorless regret that talks on Lords reform failed. The fisheries dispute with the United States was also discussed.

Pollock Hears Pembina County Seat Case in Fargo

The North Dakota district court heard arguments in the Pembina Cavalier county seat dispute. Pembina seeks to overturn the election alleging irregularities that prevented votes for other towns such as Hamilton. Cavalier is represented by George A. Bangs with Judge N. C. Young for Pembina. Pembina, founded in earlier days near the border, hosts a U S customs post serving cross border trade. Roy Fry of Spearinville attended to business in Fargo this week.
