Keen Sight of the Quit Gull Cleverly Demonstrated
An American naturalist recounts gulls following a steamer at twenty miles per hour. A cracker piece dropped overboard vanishes from sight as the gull finds and retrieves it after a short distance. A postage stamp lures the bird but — misled — it abandons the hunt and returns to its post.
A Moneyless Man Seen As Walking Death
A Moneyless Man is described as a soulless body, a sorrowful countenance, and a tedious speaker who is interrupted and avoided. The piece notes acquaintances unavailable, merchants demanding cash, and misfortune following him from morning wakefulness to nightly sleep, as illustrated by Bruno's Weekly.

Genius and Mediocrity in Historical Voices
A reflective article surveys famous figures from antiquity to the Renaissance, noting missteps in language and public discourse. It claims mediocrity can chatter while genius observes, citing Seneca and Socrates alongside poets and philosophers in a critique of eloquence and social ease. It also touches on fashion history, crediting French kings Louis XI to Louis XV with silk dress influences and naming and timing of “Louis” fashion items.

High Tribute and Falling Leaves Observations

Practical Health Hint Acute Rheumatism Remedies
Remedies for acute muscular rheumatism include rest and heat for relief. Purgation may aid despite limited scientific basis. Salicylates help pain after purgation. Opiates are usually unsuitable though lead and opium wash can ease pain when applied hot. External massage, vibratory treatment, hydrotherapy and counterirritation also offer value.
