Two Workers Die in Electrified Signal Project
Two young workers, H. G. Livingston of Rochester New York and Ivan Patrick of Williamsburg Kentucky, were killed Wednesday afternoon while installing a block signal system between Temple and a nearby town. They rode a small track car when struck by the line, their bodies badly burned. Train No. 8 found them on the track and they were taken to Ray. Livingston, about 32, had served in the army and was an expert electrician. Patrick, 18, had recently joined the crew. Their remains were shipped to their homes after notifying relatives.

Cattle Tick Deters Success
Washington reports eradication of cattle ticks has raised cattle value by at least seven dollars per head in Mississippi counties. A bureau inspector notes $100,000 cost yielded $2,148,819 in increased valuation over the past year, with permanent gains as counties remain tick free. The piece links tick eradication to broader South cattle potential and national meat supply issues.

It cites Mississippi counties still in quarantine losing about three million dollars annually, estimates the eradication cost at 86000, and notes broader benefits for corn and cotton yields from restored soil fertility. Experts urge sustained campaigns until every tick is destroyed nationwide.
